In 1841, the municipality of Grenelle purchased a ground of 4000 m2 adjoining the new city hall and its garden. This green set, because planted by rows of chestnut trees which were regrettably transformed wooden of heater during the hard winter 1870-1871) took the name of place of the City hall then the place of the Business because of the immediate neighborhood of the street of the same name, which lined it in the Southeast extremity.
This place, decorated with a public garden (and at the end of the XIXth century of a bandstand), found its chestnut trees; it remained practically unchanged for more than 150 years, place of relaxation hardly appreciated by Grenellois, children accompanied with their parents, strollers and boulistes reunited in association.
